As told by Elizabeth Avery
This beautiful buck, appropriately named “Split Brow”, had been viewed by multiple hunters in the area. I decided to set my sites on him, the goal being to take him during early bow if given the opportunity. On 10/5/24 I climbed into my tree stand and from 5:30 to 6:30 watched multiple does feed and leave, two of them making their way directly behind me.
Just when the coast was clear and I thought my hunt was complete I heard footsteps very close behind me. I did not want to risk turning around so I focused my site on the spots I had previously ranged, mentally preparing myself in the event it was him. With another step I could see the right side of the rack. With another step I could see his entire rack and knew it was him. As soon as I saw his entire body I waited for him to put his head down so I could stand up. Once I was up, I waited for him to pick his head up and with a perfect hard quartering away shot at 15 yards... I took it. He made it 60 yards after impact with a heart shot into his opposite leg. The buck dressed at 195 lbs. with a 20 inch spread and a gross score of 140 3/8.
